  • Water – 1.5 cups
  • Moong dal – 1/2 cup
  • Jaggery – 1/2 cup
  • Ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Rice flour – 1 cup
  • Oil – for deep fry

Preparation Steps:
  • In a pan take 1 and 1/2 cup of water, and add 1/2 cup of washed moong dal to it, close the lid and cook it for 5 minutes.
  • After 5 minutes add 1/2 cup of jaggery, 1TBSP of cow ghee to it, and mix it well till the jaggery gets completely melted.
  • After jaggery melts completely add 1 cup of rice flour to it and mix and combine well and it looks like / forms like a chapati dough. Make sure that no lumps are present in it.
  • Close the lid and cook it for 5 minutes in a low flame.
  • After 5 minutes switch off the flame, take out the dough, and transfer it to the bowl. Let it cool completely.
  • Knead the dough well and make it smooth and clear.
  • Now take a lemon sized dough, make it like a ball and flatten slightly by pressing it in both the palms. Prepare all like appalu as said and appalu are ready to fry.
  • This appalu should be fried in the medium heated oil only, stir continuously and fry till appalu turns into golden color.
  • That’s it appalu is ready to serve God as a Prasadam.
